Why we need 20 mph zones in school areas to keep our children safe?

I am a father and a councillor who shares the same concern as many parents in our community - the safety of our children. I, like many parents here, want my daughter to be safe as she travels to and from school. However, fast-moving vehicles in school areas can pose a serious risk to our children's safety. That's why I am calling for the establishment of 20 mph zones in local school areas across the Bowdon Ward.

Research shows that 20 mph speed limits in school areas improve safety for pedestrians, including children, and encourage active travel while reducing pollution. Successful examples of these zones have been established in Trafford, such as South Downs Road.

Of course, implementing 20 mph zones may require changes to road design and effective enforcement measures, but as a councillor, I am committed to working towards a safer environment for our children. I am confident that with the support of the community, we can make this happen. Let's work together to make Bowdon a safer place for our children.
