It seems that the pronounced left-wing stance chosen by the Green Party on so many issues is coming as quite a shock to a lot of Trafford residents, especially those with children attending or destined for Trafford schools.
The Green Manifesto policy to get rid of Grammar Schools flies in the face of what so many parents and guardians seek for their children from Trafford's highly rated High Schools and Grammars. Greens have the aim of merging these schools with Comprehensives.
As a father of a junior daughter who goes to a local school, Conservative candidate for Bowdon Dr Shengke Zhi believes "every parent has their own right to choose a suitable school for their children and I respect the right to have faith, academy and grammar schools and I will never support a policy putting at a disadvantage."
Who's to say that the Greens couldn't achieve their aim locally in a political deal with Labour? The disruption to incumbent pupils would be a catastrophe and the loss of fine education establishments for them never to return would be an act of vandalism. Something the Trafford Greens are happy to do.
